How to bathe a kitten?

Many people think that cats hate water. Bathing, indeed, can be stressful for a pet for a variety of reasons. Firstly, a wet animal cannot move as quickly. Secondly, wetted wool loses its protective function. Thirdly, due to the lack of fat reserves, hypothermia is possible. But, if as soon as possible to accustom a kitten to bathing, this process will become pleasant and painless. The main thing is to adhere to several rules, and then the washing process will not cause rejection.

Rule number 1: Do not scare
Before the procedure, calm down yourself: the animal feels perfectly the mood of the owner and can adopt it. Sudden movements, raised tones, emotions – all this will be transmitted to the kitten and cause undue anxiety. He can run away in panic, and catching a wet, frightened pet is not a pleasant occupation. From the first swim will largely depend on how he will transfer this procedure in the future.

Rule number 2: Choose the right capacity for swimming
It is important, what bathing kitten. A small basin or washbasin is best. The pet should stand firmly on its paws on a non-slip surface – for this you can put a towel, rubber or silicone pad. The water level should reach the neck.

Rule number 3: Do not make mistakes with the temperature of the water
Too hot or cold water does not bring pleasure to the animal, on the contrary, it can frighten and turn away from bathing forever. The preferred temperature is 36–39 degrees Celsius.

Rule number 4: Rinse the dirtiest zones
During bathing, you must first pay attention to the paws, the skin on the ears, groin, abdomen and the area under the tail. In these places accumulates, as a rule, the most dirt and grease.
It should be ensured that water does not fall into the ears: this can cause serious health problems, even otitis. To do this, at the time of washing in the ears, you can insert cotton swabs.

Rule No. 5: Avoid showering, but rinse thoroughly.

From a strong jet of water or shower, the kitten may be frightened, so do not rinse it in this way. It is best to simply change the water in the tank in which the bathing. The head can be moistened with a sponge or wet hands. Care should be taken to ensure that detergents – it is better to use special shampoos for kittens that sell in pet stores – were well washed away. After bathing, the pet will still lick, and if the remains of “chemistry” remain on the coat, it can be poisoned.

Rule number 6: dry well
In the room where the bathing takes place, there should be no drafts that can provoke a cold. After washing the kitten must be wrapped in a towel and wiped well. You can try to dry it with a hair dryer, choosing to start the minimum speed and temperature. Then you must comb the wool.
